Sheriff's deputies arrested the two suspects after they crashed on the San Diego Freeway The San Diego Freeway (Interstate 405, and the part of Interstate 5 south of the El Toro Y[1]) is one of the principal north-south highways in Southern California, and the major beltway of I-5 running through Southern California.  in Westwood after a chase that reached speeds of up to 105 mph.

The southbound 405 was closed for 45 minutes, and traffic was tied up in both directions for miles, the second traffic-snarling pursuit of robbery suspects on Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  freeways in three days.

One Malibu deputy was injured when a motorist rear-ended his patrol car while he tried to hold back traffic on the Ventura Freeway The Ventura Freeway is a freeway in southern California running from Ventura to Pasadena.  Johnson III, 20, both of Compton, suffered minor injuries after crashing near Wilshire Boulevard about 11:30 a.m. None of the stolen bank money was recovered.

Two other vehicles crashed into one another as the suspects spun out of control and swerved across four lanes of traffic. No one was hurt.

The chase stretched from Malibu to Thousand Oaks to the San Fernando Valley, and on streets through Woodland Hills, Winnetka, Reseda and Tarzana, then back onto the Ventura and San Diego freeways, then through the Sepulveda Pass to Westwood.

Authorities believe that a third suspect might have fled with the money from the first getaway car - a silver vehicle that waited outside the bank in the 29100 block of Heathercliff Road in Malibu.

The takeover robbery occurred at 10:14 a.m. when one of the suspects, concealed by sunglasses and a ski mask, entered the bank flashing a gun and carrying a large black nylon tote bag, the FBI said.

He hollered, ``This is a holdup. Give me all your money,'' said Laura Bosley, an FBI spokeswoman in Los Angeles. After the money was handed to him, he thanked everyone and fled.

Deputies said the robbers made one large mistake. That was choosing Malibu to carry out a bank robbery. With only three major streets to access the Ventura Freeway, deputies find suspects are unfamiliar with the territory, said Deputy Michael Gurrola of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Lost Hills station.

``That's the bad thing about pulling robberies in Malibu: There's not many ways out,'' Gurrola said.

A deputy saw the passing silver car and recalled seeing the red Chevy parked to the side of the road for the switch. He radioed to other deputies, who found the suspects heading northbound on Kanan Road toward the Ventura Freeway and began chase. The CHP CHP Chapter

later joined the pursuit, with up to 10 patrol cars behind the suspects at some points.

This freeway chase that ended in a major traffic tie-up marks the second one since Wednesday, when another bank robbery suspect fled on the Foothill Freeway at Lake Avenue. The suspect was found shot to death, said CHP Officer Ed Jacobs.
