ARRAIGNMENT SET IN ASSAULT CASE.

Sheriff's deputies responded to Joseph Kowalski's apartment about 12:30 p.m. Saturday, after a disturbance at his apartment in the 27000 block of Hidaway Avenue crescendoed with a gunshot.

Kowalski locked the roommate out of their apartment, and when she had a neighbor try to enter the apartment using a ladder, Kowalski got his gun, Lendman said.

When the neighbor crawled through an upstairs window and made his way into the residence, he was confronted by Kowalski, armed with a pistol, Lendman said.

Seeing the handgun, the neighbor ran for the front door and heard a shot ring out behind him as he exited, Lendman said.

Monday, Kowalski was being held in county jail in downtown Los Angeles Downtown Los Angeles is the central business district of Los Angeles, California, located close to the geographic center of the metropolitan area. The sprawling, multi-centered megacity is such that its downtown core is often considered just another district like Hollywood or  on $50,000 bail, Lasko said.

He will be arraigned at the Los Angeles County Court in Newhall Superior Court this afternoon.

No one was injured in the conflict.
