China Cracks Down On Spiritual Movement

Controversial spiritual movement combining healthful exercises with meditation for the purpose of “moving to higher levels.” Its teachings draw from Buddhism, Confucianism, Daoism, and the Western New Age movement.

This round of suppression was instigated after 10,000 Falun Gong followers, who preach a combination of exercise and meditation, participated in a peaceful sit-in protest April 25 at the Communist Party's leadership compound.
