NORTH HOLLYWOOD

'National Night Out' event planned at park

As part of the National Night Out to fight crime, North Hollywood residents will meet with local officials, neighborhood councils Neighborhood councils are governmental or non-governmental bodies composed of local people who handle neighborhood problems. They can be found in many cities throughout the world.  and homeowners groups at North Hollywood Park Hollywood Park may be several places:
  • Hollywood Park, Texas
  • Hollywood Park, Chicago, a neighborhood in Chicago
  • Hollywood Memorial Park Cemetery in Los Angeles, California
  • Hollywood Park Racetrack, Thoroughbred race track in Inglewood, California
.

The park, located at Magnolia Street and Tujunga Avenue, will have prize drawings at 6 and 7 p.m., with gifts donated by Target Stores and a number of local businesses.

City Council members Wendy Greuel Wendy Greuel is President Pro Tempore of the Los Angeles City Council representing the 2nd District. Greuel was elected in 2002 to fill the remainder of the term of Councilman Joel Wachs. She was elected in her own right in 2003 and reelected in 2007.  and Tom LaBonge Tom LaBonge (b. Los Angeles 1953), member of the Los Angeles City Council representing the 4th district. He has served since 2001, taking over the position upon the death of John Ferraro.  are scheduled to be at the event that will also feature musical groups and information from public agencies.

Thieves make getaway with city fire hydrants

Two fire hydrants were stolen during the past week in Glendale, apparently to be sold as scrap metal, authorities said Monday.

Glendale has seen a sudden rise in metal thefts, including electrical wiring, said city spokesman Ritch Wells.

 parts on hydrants can fly off if tampered with, and removing hydrants poses an obvious safety threat if a hydrant is missing when needed by firefighters. No injuries were reported in the recent thefts.

Officials urged people to call the tip line 818-507-STOP if they see suspicious activity around fire hydrants or electrical wiring.
