 Paul Krekorian Paul Krekorian was elected in 2006 to serve California's 43rd Assembly District, which includes the cities of Glendale and Burbank and the Los Feliz, Silver Lake, North Hollywood, Valley Glen, Toluca Lake, Atwater Village and Valley Village communities of Los Angeles. , D-Burbank, announced Thursday that Caltrans has installed signs along the 170 Freeway marking Valley Glen exits to better recognize the community.

The new signs will be formally unveiled at 3 p.m. today in Laurel Grove Park at Erwin Street and Bellingham Avenue, at the southern point of the park.

"Valley Glen deserves to be recognized as a special community and neighborhood," Krekorian said.

He credited the Greater Valley Glen Council for its vision and leadership in pursuing the signs.

Sobriety checkpoint set tonight

Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  police will hold a sobriety checkpoint from 5 p.m. today to 2 a.m. Saturday in an area that had a 56 percent increase in DUI collisions last year.

The checkpoint, conducted by the Valley Traffic Division, will be at Lankershim and Victory boulevards. As of July 15, there have been four drunk-driving-related collisions on Lankershim north of Oxnard Street, police said.

Passenger dies in tour bus fall

A tour bus passenger died after getting off the bus, falling and hitting the pavement near an off-ramp of the 405 Freeway, authorities said.

The incident occurred on the Nordhoff Street off-ramp of the southbound south·bound

A passenger on a tour bus from Mexico apparently became upset when the bus developed brake problems and demanded to be let off.

The bus driver complied, allowing the passenger off the bus. But upon exiting, the passenger fell and hit the pavement hard. He later died at a hospital.

There were about 20 people on the tour bus, Porter said.
