Workshop slated on landscaping

PALMDALE -- The Palmdale Water District will hold a free landscape workshop from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the district office, 2029 E. Ave. Q.

Landscape expert Chris Gudmandson will discuss how to convert from a sprinkler to a drip system, what types of plants to use and how to water them.

Water main break floods two streets

VALENCIA -- A broken water main flooded the crossing of two of western Santa Clarita's busiest streets Thursday night, authorities said.

Crews worked through the night to repair the break beneath the intersection of Valencia Boulevard and McBean Parkway, just outside the Westfield Valencia Town Center Westfield Valencia Town Center, formerly Valencia Town Center, is a shopping mall in Valencia, California, owned by The Westfield Group. Its anchor stores are JCPenney, Macy's, and Sears. VENTURA COUNTY

Pedestrian safety subject of sting

VENTURA -- Police issued 11 citations in three hours to drivers Thursday morning in a traffic enforcement sting designed to make drivers more respectful of pedestrians.

Officers cited drivers for violations such as failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, passing another car stopped for a pedestrian and talking on a cell phone without a hands-free device.

The sting occurred on Ventura Avenue at Simpson Street and Thompson Boulevard at Ash Street Coordinates:  Ash Street is a village in Suffolk, England. .

"The Ventura Police Department would like to remind drivers to know the rules of the road and use caution when driving to help save lives," the department said in a written statement.
