Schwarzenegger's Boston reception drew picketing by California nurses, who have promised to follow the governor to his fundraisers. At Schwarzenegger's first Antelope Valley political appearance in September 2003, more than 1,300 people filled the Antelope Valley Fairgrounds' Poppy Pavilion for a $250-a-plate dinner for Schwarzenegger's gubernatorial campaign during the recall of Gov. Gray Davis. That appearance also drew about 30 Democrats who picketed outside the fairgrounds' fence. In May 2004, he was in the valley for the funeral of the late state Sen. W.J. ``Pete'' Knight.
