``It's a possibility that they may be connected; there are some similarities. But we have no information at this time that leads us to say they are connected,'' said Los Angeles police Detective Duane Burris of the West Valley Division.

The gunmen forced their way into a home in the 21300 block of Las Pilas Road about 12:10 a.m., entered the master bedroom and began pistol-whipping a woman, Burris said.

Her husband bolted out of bed and struggled with the second gunman, then broke free and ran to a neighbor's house, Burris said. A short time later the man saw the assailants run from his home.

The couple suffered minor injuries. They and their two children, who were home at the time, were not identified for their safety, police said.

``It appears to be a random incident. We don't believe right now that the family was targeted for any specific reason,'' Burris said.

Police described the assailants as African-American men, one 6 feet tall with a medium build, between 20 and 25; the second 5 feet 8 inches tall, about 160 pounds, between 20 and 25 years old.

Investigators ask that anyone with information call West Valley detectives at (818) 756-8546.
