 ARMCO STEEL COMPANY NAMES TWO VICE PRESIDENTS
 MIDDLETOWN, Ohio, Aug. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Mark G. Essig, 34, was


named vice president, employee relations and assistant to the president; and David F. Alexander, 52, was named vice president, design engineering for Armco Steel Company, L.P.
 Essig assumes responsibility for human resources, industrial relations, public affairs, manpower planning, employee development and administrative services for the company.
 Essig had been vice president and chief financial officer for Washington Steel Corporation, Washington, Pa., where he also had held the post of vice president, finance and administration. Prior to Washington Steel Corporation, he operated a consulting firm specializing in corporate turnarounds for manufacturing companies. Essig began his corporate career in 1977 with Borg-Warner Corporation holding positions in finance, labor relations and plant management.
 In his new position, Alexander has responsibility for the company's capital planning and design engineering. He began his Armco career in 1965 in the engineering department of the Ashland, Ky. plant. He progressed through a number of engineering assignments in Ashland before being named area manager, engineering, maintenance and services in 1988. After completing a special assignment related to business unit consolidations, he was named assistant to the president, employee relations in 1990.
 Commenting on the changes, Thomas C. Graham, president and chief executive officer said, "I am delighted that Mark Essig has joined Armco Steel Company. His extensive experience and broad background will contribute significantly to our goal of returning to profitability. We are also fortunate to have Dave Alexander, with his vast knowledge of Armco Steel Company's operations, heading up our engineering functions."
 Headquartered in Middletown, Ohio, Armco Steel Company is a 50/50 joint venture between Armco Inc. (NYSE: AS), Parsippany, N.J., and Kawasaki Steel Corporation, Tokyo. The company produces flat rolled carbon steel for automotive, appliance, construction, manufacturing and distribution markets. The company employs about 8,600 in its plants and company headquarters.
