ARLETA MAN STILL MISSING; DOGS PICK UP SCENT SEARCH CONTINUES IN FOREST.

Authorities combed hiking trails in the Angeles National Forest The Angeles National Forest (ANF) was established by executive order on December 20, 1892 as the San Gabriel Timberland Reserve. It covers over 2,600 km² (650,000 acres) and is located in the San Gabriel Mountains of Los Angeles County, just north of the metropolitan area of Los  on Tuesday, searching for a 26-year-old Arleta man who hasn't been seen since he left for work Aug. 9.

Relatives of Luis Cruz reported him missing Aug. 11, when he failed to come home from his volunteer job caring for a 64-year-old man from Valley Village.

Authorities have been searching hiking trails, the campground and ridges for the missing Valley College student, who has dreams of becoming a doctor.

    ``There's nothing to indicate any kind of criminal activity at all,'' said Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  County sheriff's Sgt. Don Hudalla, a watch commander at the Crescenta Valley station. ``It's just strange that his car's been there for nine days. If a person went hiking, they'd be in Vegas by now.''

    Authorities would have called off the search Tuesday if a bloodhound bloodhound, breed of large hound whose ancestors were known in the Mediterranean region before the Christian era. It stands about 25 in. (63.5 cm) high at the shoulder and weighs between 80 and 110 lb (36.3–49.9 kg).  hadn't picked up a scent Monday.

    ``The only reason we went back today is because the dogs hit on something,'' Hudalla said.

    Cruz is a male Latino with brown hair and brown eyes. He is 5 feet, 9 inches tall, and weighs 130 pounds. He has a tattoo on his right ankle, the name ``Rubia.''
