ARIAL SOFTWARE DROPS E-MAIL MERGE TO $99; MASS-CUSTOMIZED E-MAIL USING COMMERCIAL DATABASES NOW MORE AFFORDABLE.

PORTLAND, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 23, 1996--Arial Software today announced a significant price drop for their internet e-mail utility, "Arial's E-Mail Merge(TM)," dropping the price to $99.

Arial's E-Mail Merge runs under Windows 95 and allows users to send customized e-mail messages to large numbers of e-mail recipients -- usually an existing customer list or subscriber list. The new price is effective immediately.

"Arial Software was the first to introduce this type of product to the market," said Mike Adams Mike Adams may refer to:

  • Mike Adams (baseball pitcher) (born 1978), Major League Baseball pitcher
, president of Arial Software, "and since the product introduction, we have learned it has much wider appeal than we first predicted. With this mass-market appeal, we are able to lower our prices and deliver greater value to our customers."

Arial's E-Mail Merge works by reading records from any database that supports comma-delimited or tab-delimited formats -- such as Microsoft Access A database program for Windows, available separately or included in the Microsoft Office suite. Access is programmable using Visual Basic for Applications (VBA). Access can read Paradox, dBASE and Btrieve files, and using ODBC, Microsoft SQL Server, SYBASE SQL Server and Oracle data. , dBase, Paradox paradox, statement that appears self-contradictory but actually has a basis in truth, e.g., Oscar Wilde's "Ignorance is like a delicate fruit; touch it and the bloom is gone.  or FoxPro. It then combines that data with a message file template (1) A pre-designed document or data file formatted for common purposes such as a fax, invoice or business letter. If the document contains an automated process, such as a word processing macro or spreadsheet formula, then the programming is already written and embedded in the  to create a series of customized e-mails. Each e-mail is unique because it inserts information from the database (up to 256 fields can be used). For example, the sender can address the e-mail recipient by name and include details like how long they've been a customer, what they've purchased, etc.

Arial's E-Mail Merge has proven to be a highly-successful product with a great number of professional uses. Current customers include the University of Chicago, Intuit in·tu·it
