ARGYLLY McCOIST; Rangers star's poppy tribute.

ALLY McCOIST Alistair "Ally" Murdoch McCoist MBE (born September 24, 1962 in Bellshill, North Lanarkshire) is a Scottish former professional football player who played as a striker. He is currently assistant manager at Scottish Premier League club Rangers.  was capped by the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders was an infantry regiment of the British Army, part of the Scottish Division. In 2004, as part of the restructuring of the infantry, it was announced that the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders would be amalgamated with the other Scottish  yesterday as Rangers prepared to honour the battalion at Ibrox.

The Rangers assistant boss met some of the soldiers who will parade on the Ibrox pitch tomorrow, and Sergeant Major David Robertson let him try a regimental tammy on for size.

Coisty said: "Footballers are often regarded as heroes but the people who fight for their country are the real heroes."

About 50 men of the Argylls, who recently returned from Afghanistan, will take the applause of the Ibrox crowd at half-time in tomorrow's game with Caley Thistle. There will also be a collection at the ground for the Poppyscotland appeal.

David said: "It's tremendous that Rangers have chosen to invite us.

"When you're stuck in a place like Helmand province, you wonder how people back home feel about what you're doing. Gestures like this make us feel appreciated."
