was, and wanted to find out for himself.

He decided to get into a foreign exchange program through his high school that would bring him here: to Camarillo.

At first he did not fit in at school because he did not speak English. He did not fit in with his American counterparts, and he felt like the girls weren't interested in him. But he found his way: on the basketball court.

``I came to this country to do two things,'' It said. ``Play basketball and learn English.''

He tried out and made the team as a junior point guard. He had great dreams of making it like his boyhood idol, Magic Johnson “Earvin Johnson” redirects here. For the Milwaukee Bucks center, see Ervin Johnson.

.

``Growing up, he (Magic) was and still is the only one that I want to be like,'' said It, now a senior. ``I would watch him play back home with my father and hope one day to see him in person.''

He did get a chance to see Johnson in person in December when his American family American Family is a photographic artwork exhibition by Renée Cox. See also

Espelet. The two of them got involved in the exchange program and decided to choose America for their junior year.

When the year was over they went back home, like most exchange programs. But It and Espelet (who is now in Utah) couldn't get enough of this country.

``I did everything I could do to get my Visa and papers done so I could come back here again,'' It said. ``I love this place and I missed my American family, all 10 of them.''

His game doesn't resemble anything of his boyhood idol, Magic. It resembles more of Dennis Rodman.

He is very flamboyant and outspoken on the court, always talking to Noun 1. talking to - a lengthy rebuke; "a good lecture was my father's idea of discipline"; "the teacher gave him a talking to"

It, much like Rodman, dives for balls and puts his body on the line on every play.

But It's greatest asset is his passing ability. He can see people anywhere on the court and has a good sense of when to pass and when not to.

His biggest problem is playing out of control. He has so much energy when going after the ball that it forces turnovers. Learning to slow down in pressure situations might improve that.

``That was the way that I was taught to play the game. Ever since I was a little kid I was taught that you should always give the game 100 percent and that is what I do. I love the game and that is the way I am going to play it.''

Camarillo coach Mike Prewitt has learned to use It's skills the best he can. ``At first he was way out of control but we have calmed him down,'' Prewitt said. ``We want to use him to the best of his ability.''

And that is just what they have done. It is having a good senior season, averaging about 10 points and five assists a game.

``The biggest adjustment for me has been to play the game the American way The American way of life is an expression that refers to the "life style" of people living in the United States of America.
