AREW to mark 25th anniversary. The Association of Real Estate Women (AREW) will mark its 25th anniversary of opening doors and minds for women in the real estate industry with a gala to be held on April 2 at the St. Regis Hotel, 2 East 55th St. at Fifth Avenue. A highlight of the gala will be the presentation of awards to Women of Outstanding Achievement in 12 categories of real estate expertise. AREW solicited nominations from the real estate industry at large for the awards which were not limited to AREW members. "In 1978; when AREW began, there were almost no women in the upper echelons of the industry," said Ruth A. Agnese, senior vice president, Appraisers and Planners Inc. and co-chair of AREW's 25th Anniversary Committee. "These awards shine a spotlight on the tremendous strides women have made to level the playing field in the ensuing en·sue intr.v. en·sued, en·su·ing, en·sues 1. To follow as a consequence or result. "Unlike other real estate organizations which specialize in bringing together members from the same profession, AREW represents the full spectrum of the industry," said AREW president Suzanne Kliegerman, Commerce Bank. "Thus these awards in a dozen professional categories also represent one of ARE W's enduring strengths -- the diversity of its membership." The 12 women who will receive an Outstanding Woman of Achievement award at the AREW gala (in alphabetical order with their award categories) are: Deborah Adelman, Citibanking Commercial Real Estate (finance); Stephanie Butler, First American First American may refer to:

AREW was founded in 1978 by a handful of women real estate executives to fulfill a real need: creation of an association by and for women real estate professionals, then few and far between and mostly unknown to each other, that would provide the opportunity to meet, learn from and support other women in their professional and personal growth. Making a difference in the greater community was also a goal of the new group. In the ensuing quarter century, AREW's mission has remained constant while it has risen from fledging organization to one of the real estate industry's most vital, active and trendsetting associations. AREW holds monthly luncheons featuring top industry executives speaking on timely topics; behind-the-scenes tours of buildings and neighborhoods; general interest and real estate-specific seminars; a series of breakfasts with industry leaders for members only; and a variety of special events including twice-yearly networking cocktail receptions. AREW's commitment to community responsibility is expressed through the AREW Charitable Fund which has provided long-standing support of Women In Need, Inc.
