AREW lines up hotel experts for February luncheon.

At its Tuesday, February 7 luncheon, the Association of Real Estate Women (AREW) will present a panel of top experts from the hotel industry who will address current market trends, such as the effect of rooms being converted to private condominium residences and the burgeoning number of small, boutique hotels opening around Manhattan.

The program will be moderated by Kimberly Moffitt Hehir, vice president of strategic planning, The Leading Hotels of the World.

Panelists include Bjorn Hanson, Ph.D., global hospitality industry partner, PricewaterhouseCoopers; Pamela Malkani, partner, Millennium Partners; Jason Pomeranc, The Pomeranc Group; and Karen E. Rubin, CRE, CHA, MAI, senior vice president, Development, Feasibility, and Investment Analysis, Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide.

The luncheon will be held at Club 101, 101 Park Avenue at 40th Street. An hour of networking begins at 11:30 AM, followed by the luncheon and program. There is no charge for AREW members. Cost for AREW nonmembers is $100. There is a $10 surcharge for walk-ins.

Moderator Kimberly Moffitt Hehir is responsible for managing The Leading Hotels of the World's eleven joint ventures and ancillary businesses, including The Leading Residences of the World, a luxury destination club launched in July 2005.

Bjorn Hanson is well known for his consulting and econometric and statistical research. He holds Certified Real Estate Counselor (CRE), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) and Food Service Consultants International (FSCI) professional designations. He is an author and frequent speaker who has been quoted in almost every major business periodical and industry journal.

As head of the Hospitality portfolio for Millennium Partners, Pamela Malkani is the company's key liaison and strategist working with its five-star hotel partners, The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company and Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts. Her job puts her at the front line of development and asset management for Millennium, which has recently established itself as a major developer of luxury hotels in mixed-use buildings in the U.S.

Jason Pomeranc joined his family's real estate development firm, the Pomeranc Group, in 1997. He has most notably been the force behind 60 Thompson, a fashionable, high-style hotel in SoHo on which a series of innovative hotel properties throughout the United States and Europe will be based. Current Pomeranc projects are 6 Columbus, a boutique hotel in Columbus Circle, and a Lower East Side property on Allen Street.

Karen Rubin is the managing member of Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide Global Development Committee. She is responsible for worldwide underwriting of new deals including acquisitions, joint ventures, management contracts, mezzanine loans, franchises, and new development for Starwood's St. Regis, Sheraton, Westin, Luxury Collection, Four Points by Sheraton, and W brands.
