AREW: Strong supporter of women in industry.

The last year has been one of celebration, marking 25 years since the founding of AREW, as well as providing an impetus to reflect upon the past and anticipate the future with a new perspective.

AREW is an acronym for the Association of Real Estate Women. It was founded in 1978 to fill a tremendous need for women in our industry then few and far between to have an opportunity to meet, get to know each other and support each other's professional growth.

The ensuing quarter-century has seen prodigious positive changes in the status of women in real estate who can now be found on every level, in every segment of the industry, but that has not changed ARE W's long-term mission. We were, are and will remain the most consistent, strongest and most resolute supporter of women in real estate. Our role, through a rich and varied program, is to influence greater acceptance, exposure and opportunities for AREW's members.

AREW stands apart as an organization. Not only is it the largest organization focused on women, it is also the most diverse. One of our greatest strengths and distinctions lies in a membership which represents not only the full spectrum of the industry, but also many levels of experience within.

Within AREW, you'll find attorneys, accountants, architects, developers, brokers, corporate real estate executives, mortgage brokers, investment bankers, institutional lenders, facilities designers, executive recruiters, property and portfolio managers, financial analysts, engineers, marketers (and more) from the commercial, residential and retail sectors.

In turn, those members represent multiple rungs of the real estate career ladder The Career ladder is a metaphor or buzzword used to denote vertical job promotion. In business and human resources management, the ladder typically describes the progression from entry level positions to higher levels of pay, skill, responsibility, or authority.  from industry superstars and seasoned senior executives, to middle managers on the rise, and those at the beginning of professional careers.

The mix makes for stimulating and productive career networking, mentoring and dealmaking opportunities as well as an invigorating in·vig·or·ate

interplay of opinions, ideas, interests and expertise.

Offering one of the industry's most ambitious, diverse calendars of events, our programs, seminars, tours and special events are among the industry's most vital and valuable offerings. In the coming year, we will be focusing, even more than before, on business-to-business networking among our members.

AREW's programs have a well-deserved reputation for being rich in content and generous in value. Preceded by a networking hour, monthly luncheons at the Harvard Club feature top industry movers, shakers and dealmakers as speakers and panelists.

Among many other luminaries, AREW luncheon speakers have included Marilyn Jordan Taylor, partner/chairman, Skidmore, Owings & Merrill; Larry A. Silverstein, president/CEO, Silverstein Properties; Jonathan M.
