AREAS STILL WITHOUT POWER : CREWS SCRAMBLE TO RESTORE SERVICE TO CUSTOMERS.

Byline: Alicia Doyle Daily News Staff Writer

Southern California Edison Southern California Edison (or SCE Corp), the largest subsidiary of Edison International (NYSE: EIX), is the primary electricity supply company for much of Southern California. It provides 11 million people with electricity.  crews continued to work around the clock Monday to restore power to the areas of Ventura County hit by windstorms over the weekend.

caused more than 100,000 Edison customers in Ventura County to go without power from 30 seconds to several hours Saturday and Sunday, said Rudy Gonzales, regional manager of Southern California Edison.

More than 55 Edison crews worked Monday to restore power to 400 customers who remained without power in areas including Moorpark and Thousand Oaks Thousand Oaks, residential city (1990 pop. 104,352), Ventura co., S Calif., in a farm area; inc. 1964. He could not speculate why the winds hit some areas harder than others.

``It's like an earthquake - the path of an earthquake takes some strange turns. That was the same with the wind here.''

Homes and businesses that remained without power Monday were mostly those built before the 1970s, when electric lines were placed above ground, Gonzales explained.

``Newer homes constructed with electrical facilities underground are less susceptible to have problems with wind,'' he said.

Across the county, streets were strewn strew

National Weather Service forecasters said the winds hit about 50 mph. Gusts of 100 mph were reported from Channel Islands Harbor.
