Two San Fernando Valley San Fernando Valley

Valley, southern California, U.S. Northwest of central Los Angeles, the valley is bounded by the San Gabriel, Santa Susana, and Santa Monica mountains and the Simi Hills.
 high school students have been awarded full-tuition scholarships to two of America's top culinary arts programs.

Luis de Santiago of Sylmar High School Sylmar High School is a public school in the northeast San Fernando Valley in the Sylmar district of Los Angeles, California. Established in the 1950s, it is part of the Los Angeles Unified School District, District 2, and serves more than 3,600 students in grades 9-12.  was awarded a $43,000 scholarship to attend The Art Institute of California and Jeffrey Louis Jones of Van Nuys High School Van Nuys High School (VNHS) established in 1914, is a high school in the Van Nuys area of Los Angeles, California, belonging to the Los Angeles Unified School District: District 2.  was awarded a $42,000 scholarship to attend the Culinary Institute of America.

De Santiago and Jones were just two of the culinary students honored Monday at the Careers through Culinary Arts Program awards banquet at the Four Seasons Hotel. A total of $346,000 in scholarships was given to 26 students, who competed in a culinary cook-off Friday at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College.

Mitzie Cutler, Los Angeles program director for C-CAP, said the judges were ``blown away'' by the talent of the students, who have been training with top area chefs.

``Remember their names because you will see them in bright lights; they'll be the Wolfgang Pucks of the next era,'' Cutler said.

Other winners from the Valley include: Erica Contreras of Sylmar High School, $24,500 to attend Kendall College in Chicago; Alexander Granados of Chatsworth High School, $22,000 to attend the New England Culinary Institute The New England Culinary Institute (NECI) is a culinary school located in Montpelier, Vermont founded on June 15, 1980 by Fran Voigt and John Dranow. The first NECI class, conducted by Chef Michel LeBorgne, had just seven students. ; Yvonne Guerra of Monroe High School For other uses, see James Monroe High School.

The school colors are black and gold. All girl teams are referred to as Lady Tigers, all boy teams simply as Tigers.
