AREA SOCCER TEAMS READY TO DO BATTLE.

Byline: Jim Inghram Daily News Staff Writer

There wasn't much good news for area teams when the soccer playoff pairings were announced Monday.

No teams were seeded and, although the Southern Section was going away from strict geography-based matchups, top area teams could end up knocking each other off.

Example?

In boys' Division I, Thousand Oaks Thousand Oaks, residential city (1990 pop. 104,352), Ventura co., S Calif., in a farm area; inc. 1964.  will play a wild-card team Friday and the Highlanders host Palmdale. If the teams survive, they would play each other in a second-round game.

In girls' soccer, Tri-Valley League rivals La Reina La Reina (Spanish: "The queen") is a commune of Chile located in Santiago Province, Santiago Metropolitan Region. It consistently ranks in the top five communes with the best quality of life in the Metropolitan Region.  and Oak Park would meet in the second round if both are victorious in home games.

At least there are no first-round matchups of league on league.

Girls: Simi Valley Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969. , the first-place team from the Marmonte League, hosts Arroyo Grande. The Pioneers are in the same region as second-seeded Peninsula, but in a different bracket. If Simi Valley gets past the Eagles, a second-round matchup with Arcadia would be likely.

``You know,'' Simi Valley coach Mark Johnson Mark Johnson may refer to: Academics and scientists

said. ``I don't even really look at the brackets. We can't worry about down the road.''

Johnson noted that having played only one game in the past week and a half could effect his team. It's something that all Marmonte League teams will have to deal with because of the compacted regular-season schedule.

``That first game is very critical,'' Johnson said. ``We're coming off a long delay, actually too long. I hope we can build our intensity quickly for that game.''

The Marmonte League's second-place team, Westlake, has an opportunity to exact a bit of revenge in its first-round game.

The Warriors host Ventura in a first-round game Saturday. The Cougars ousted Westlake in the first round last year, 1-0.

``That was a hard loss,'' Westlake striker Meghan Daly said. ``I know some of the girls on their team from club (Las Virgenes Swoosh swoosh

Boys: The most dangerous team could be Simi Valley, which placed third in the Marmonte League. The Pioneers, were the preseason No. 1 team in the Daily News top 10, but stumbled early in the season. In the second half of league, however, the Pioneers were the best team. They finished with a 6-0-1 record and head into the playoffs on a high.

The team hosts a wild-card game against Santa Maria Santa Maria, city, Brazil
