SAUGUS - Though it's difficult for David Keck to stand for too long, the 62-year-old Saugus man took to his feet over the weekend to raise money for mentally and physically disabled children.

Keck was among about 30 members of the Knights of Columbus Knights of Columbus, American Roman Catholic society for men, founded (1882) at New Haven, Conn. (where its headquarters are still located), by Father Michael J. McGivney.  who, along with Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts Girl Scouts, recreational and service organization founded (1912) in Savannah, Ga., by Mrs. Juliette Gordon Low (1860–1927). It was originally modeled after the Boy Scouts and Girl Guides, organizations created in Great Britain by Sir Robert Baden-Powell during , stood outside major shopping centers throughout the Santa Clarita Valley The Santa Clarita Valley is the valley of the Santa Clara River in Southern California. It stretches through Los Angeles County and Ventura County. Its main population center is the city of Santa Clarita. The valley was part of the 48,612-acre (19,672.  raising money for Heads Up, a Saugus therapy program for disabled children.

``My legs give out after about three or four hours. I'm fortunate that I am still able to help,'' Keck added. ``It's great for the kids.''

``This is a big deal for the Knights,'' said Tim Lynskey, 43, of Santa Clarita. He and his 10-year-old daughter, Kirsten, volunteered their time outside the Kmart in Saugus. ``We do a lot of things in our church, but this is our big push to do something really important for the community.''

This year, local Knights of Columbus are hoping to raise $10,000, about $1,000 more than collected last year, said Scott Franklin, grand knight of Council 6016 of the Knights of Columbus, which serves the Newhall-Valencia area from Our Lady of Perpetual Help.

Proceeds are forwarded directly to the Heads Up Program that uses horses in therapy for 5,000 local children every year, officials said.

Outside the Target in Valencia, a mother walking with her mentally disabled mentally disabled See Cognitively impaired.  12-year-old daughter donated a $100 bill, officials said.

``People are being very generous,'' Franklin, 70, added. ``People are always generous.''
