The warden WARDEN. A guardian; a keeper. This is the name given to various officers: as, the warden of the prison; the wardens of the port of Philadelphia; church wardens.  at California California (kăl'ĭfôr`nyə), most populous state in the United States, located in the Far West; bordered by Oregon (N), Nevada and, across the Colorado River, Arizona (E), Mexico (S), and the Pacific Ocean (W).  State Prison-Los Angeles County in Lancaster has been reassigned as interim warden to the state prison in Tehachapi, prison officials said.

Warden Ernest Roe was sent to the California Correctional Institute in Tehachapi to fill temporarily a position vacant since the last warden retired in December.

``He is considered an interim warden,'' said Christine May Christine May (born 23 March 1948, Dublin) is a Labour politician, and was Member of the Scottish Parliament for Fife Central constituency from 2003 to 2007. Raised and educated in Dublin, Christine worked in the catering industry in Dublin and then London, and first moved to , a California Department of Corrections spokeswoman in Sacramento. ``His name has not been removed and is not anticipated to be removed as a warden from Lancaster.''

[After Charles Anderson Worsley, Second Earl of Yarborough
 will serve as acting warden at Lancaster. Yarborough has worked in state prisons since 1978 in a variety of custody and administrative positions, and he became chief deputy warden at the Lancaster prison in December.

Roe became the Lancaster prison's second permanent warden in 1994 after serving two years in Tehachapi as chief deputy warden.

Roe replaced Otis Thurman, who was removed following several escapes and amid concerns that his ``hands-off'' management style contributed to problems within the prison, which opened in 1993.

Roe has worked for the Department of Corrections for 12 years.
