AREA MLK TRIBUTES ON WEEKEND TO PUT FOCUS ON INJUSTICE.

LANCASTER -- Martin Luther King Jr. will be remembered in a series of weekend events beginning Friday, including a pair of tributes aimed at ending injustice, in Palmdale and Lancaster.

The celebration of King's life will begin with a workshop on social injustice Social Injustice is a concept relating to the perceived unfairness or injustice of a society in its divisions of rewards and burdens. The concept is distinct from those of justice in law, which may or may not be considered moral in practice.  at 7 p.m. Friday at the Living Stone Cathedral of Worship, 37721 North 100th Street East in Sun Village.

The goal of the workshop, targeting youths, is to come up with practical solutions to such issues as preventing juvenile crime.

That event will be followed by Justice Sunday Justice Sunday may refer to:

Both events are scheduled to feature Wilson Goode Sr., the former mayor of Philadelphia. Organizers said Goode is noted for his accomplishments in civil rights, education, housing, mentoring and faith-based initiatives.

Also on Sunday, Bill Strickland, founder of an agency that uses the arts to inspire inner-city teenagers, will speak at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Lancaster Performing Arts Center A performing arts center, often abbreviated PAC, is a multi-use performance space that can be adapted for use by various types of the performing arts, including dance, music and theatre. , 750 W. Lancaster Blvd.

The program also is scheduled to include a video tribute to King, testimonials from residents, and special musical performances by the Antelope Valley High School Antelope Valley High School is located in Lancaster, California and is part of the Antelope Valley Union High School District. It was founded in 1912[1]. It is located in the Mojave Desert.  choir and Alyssa Rossi.

Strickland, the founder and chief executive officer of the Manchester Craftsmen's Guild Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild is a nonprofit a multi-discipline learning community established in 1968 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA.

Its programs include MCG Jazz, MCG Youth and the Denali Initiative.

The organization is the brainchild of Bill Strickland.
, an organization that started off giving ceramics classes to inner-city youths in an abandoned row house in Pittsburgh, Pa., and has grown into an organization with a $5.1 million annual budget.

Capping the events will be a concert by Frank Graves and JUMP at the Palmdale Playhouse, 38334 10th Street East, to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day at 7 p.m. Monday.

``Frank Graves has always been a favorite of Playhouse audiences,'' said Dea McAllister, cultural arts/theater manager for the Palmdale Playhouse.

Graves and his nine-piece band will play music ranging from classic days of rock 'n' roll rock 'n' roll: see rock music.  to today's contemporary sounds.

Tickets for the event are $14 for adults and $10 for seniors, military, students and children, 12 and under.
