The PGA Champions Tour has been held at the Valencia Country Club since 2001. It will be held there again this year, from March 12 to 18.

Representatives from the club, the phone company and the PGA are scheduled to talk next week about having the 2008 AT&T Champions Classic in Valencia, participants said.

``And if we can reach an equitable relationship that's good for both sides, then we anticipate that we'll continue,'' he said.

The AT&T Champions Classic is part of the PGA Champions Tour, a tournament for professional golfers 50 or older.

``I think the (PGA) members really like it,'' said Craig Cliver, head golf professional with the Valencia Country Club. ``We do it for the city. The valley was part of the 48,612-acre (19,672. , and I think it continues our mission to do that to bring this type of event to the Santa Clarita Valley.''

The city, which for the past year has been pushing to expand event tourism, also would like to see the AT&T Classic come back next year.

``The AT&T Champions Classic has been the premiere sporting event for Santa Clarita for several years,'' said Jason Crawford, film and tourism associate for the city. ``And we're really excited that they come here, and we'll continue to work with them and make sure they come here for the foreseeable future.''

A representative from AT&T could not be reached for comment. From 2001 to 2006, the PGA had a five-year contract with the Valencia Country Club, with the possibility of two one-year extensions. It extended the contract for this year, and another extension is available for next year.

The Champions Classic has drawn 25,000 to 40,000 people a year, and it brings $7million a year in revenue to the city, Crawford said.
