Since 2001, UCLA has enrolled over 33,000 total students, and that number is steadily rising. , is kicking off its arts program in July, offering young people ages 12-18 professional training in theater, musical theater and dance.

CSUN CSUN California State University Northridge  also has more than a dozen spots open for a weeklong wheelchair sports event that will begin Monday, offering sports exhibitions and more for $250.

Internet site KidsCamps.com details a variety of private camps, which offer activities for just about every age and interest.

``We've got Go Karts, swimming, video games, carnivals, computer classes, barbecues,'' said Betty Monello, campus director of Pinecrest Schools in Woodland Hills, which offers day camps, weekly camps and full summer programs for youngsters in preschool through sixth grade.

Like most other kids, Marquise has spent the past few weeks dreaming about the day that school finally lets out and his vacation begins.

``Summer's my favorite time,'' he said. ``I get to go to sports camp. I get to play basketball. Summer's fun.''
