"The first two industrial machines at ARCO were installed at their Prudhoe Bay Prudhoe Bay, inlet of the Beaufort Sea and Arctic Ocean, N Alaska, in the Alaska North Slope region, east of the Colville River delta.  the foam in a clean, efficient and environmentally sound manner."

The Styro Solve System developed by IFS processes used polystyrene by shredding it on site and then spraying it with a biodegradable chemical solution that converts 90 percent of the foam's mass to Polygel, a gelatin-like substance which is stored in plastic bags and then shipped to a recycling plant.

Katz added that ARCO Alaska, a subsidiary of Los Angeles-based Atlantic Richfield Co., is getting ready to ship its initial bags of Polygel back to IFS for processing and recycling into usable materials. "We'll reprocess the waste 'Polygel' so that it can be reused as polystyrene and turned into packaging material, paper-clip dispensers and a variety of other items," he said.

"The experience that IFS has gained with ARCO Alaska," Katz said, "will prove invaluable to us as we continue to develop new cooperations and affiliations with companies in the oil and gas industry. This represents a vast new marketplace for IFS and we anticipate that the cooperation we've developed with ARCO Alaska will help expedite our future alliances with this important energy sector."

ARCO Alaska Inc. is responsible for exploration, development, and production of ARCO's oil and gas interests in the state of Alaska and surrounding offshore waters.

ARCO Alaska is the second-largest oil producer in that state and operates the eastern half of the Prudhoe Bay field on Alaska's North Slope North Slope, Alaska: see Alaska North Slope. , the nation's largest oil field. ARCO Alaska also operates Alaska's second and third-largest oil fields This list of oil fields includes major fields of the past and present. The list is incomplete; there are more than 40,000 oil and gas fields of all sizes in the world[1].  -- the Kuparuk River and Point McIntyre Area fields. Original Prudhoe Bay reserves were estimated at 9.6 billion gross barrels. Today, reserves are estimated at over 13 billion gross barrels.

Last week, IFS established a new pilot recycling program in DuPage County, the second-largest county in Illinois. The program, which began with the first public demonstration in the Midwest of the company's solid-waste recycling program, took place in the cafeteria of the DuPage County Administration building in Wheaton, Ill., west of Chicago.

"We were very encouraged by the response and the high degree of interest in Styro Solve that was demonstrated by governmental officials and representatives of Chicago-area businesses," Katz said, "and we look forward to an ongoing relationship with DuPage County."
