For Camarillo's Matt Lea, the Arcadia Invitational might be a preview of the 400 meters at this year's state meet in June.

Sickler and Lea, both seniors, head a list of area athletes who will compete in the prestigious 31st annual event at Arcadia High which features the nation's top high school performers.

Ryan Meuse of Simi Valley Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969.  will run in the 800 meters and Jenny Kenyon of Newbury Park will compete in the long jump and the seeded 100 meters.

In the girls' pole vault, Sickler will be seeking redemption against Pearson, the defending state champion. Last season, Sickler set a Southern Section record of 12 feet, 3 -1/2 inches and entered the state meet as the top vaulter.

In that meet, however, Sickler, the nation's No. 2 returning vaulter, cleared 10-4 and failed to advance to the finals.

``Looking back, I could have won if I had a normal day,'' Sickler said about the state meet. ``I am a little bit disappointed. I want people to know that I am for real. I know a lot of people are asking: `What's up with her?' ''

The girls' pole vault field at Arcadia will feature four of the top 10 vaulters in high school history, including Brooke Lankard of Visalia Golden West, the state runner-up with a best of 12-4. Sarah Higham of Mission Viejo Mission Vi·e·jo
