ARC Extends Reach in Medical Device Market on New License Agreement with Boston Scientific.

SAN JOSE, Calif. & ST. ALBANS, England -- ARC International (LSE:ARK) a leading provider of consumer intellectual property (IP) to OEM and semiconductor companies worldwide today announced that Boston Scientific (NYSE:BSX) has extended their commitment to ARC([R]) technology by taking a new license. A long-time ARC customer and worldwide developer, manufacturer and marketer of medical devices whose products are used in a broad range of interventional medical specialties, Boston Scientific will use the new license in ultra-low power integrated circuits for implantable cardiac rhythm management device applications.

An expanding prevalence of heart, orthopedic, neurological, and visual disorders, coupled with ongoing improvements in the safety and effectiveness of electronic medical products, will promote the growth of implantable devices. According to recent market research, demand for implantable medical devices will grow close to 10 percent annually to $40 billion in 2011.

"Led by ARC and its low power microprocessor technology, the semiconductor industry is beginning to make a significant contribution to the growing medical device industry," said Sean Redmond, vice president of worldwide field operations at ARC International. "We applaud Boston Scientific's innovative application of our technology in improving healthcare in patients worldwide, and look forward to contributing to their continuing success."
