ARBY'S OPENS 2,500TH RESTAURANT, ALSO MARKS
FIRST RESTAURANT WITH $2 MILLION IN SALES, BOTH IN MEXICO
MIAMI BEACH, Fla., Dec. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Arby's, Inc., the world's largest roast beef sandwich chain, will celebrate two major milestones on Dec. 9-10 in Mexico City.
It opens the 2,500th Arby's restaurant while celebrating the first Arby's restaurant to achieve more than $2 million in sales. Both restaurants belong to Eduardo Assael's organization, Arby's master franchisee for Mexico, according to the announcement made by Victor Posner, chairman of Arby's.
A ribbon-cuttinrdo Assael opened his first restaurant one year ago in Mexico City. Located at Pabellon Polocano, Avenida Ejercito Nacional No. 980, the restaurant is Arby's first restaurant to generate more than $2 million in annual sales.
"We are proud that the first Mexico restaurants have made two milestones in Arby's history. Our first restaurant will be remembered for the highest sales of all Arby's locations. Now, with the opening of the second Mexico City restaurant, it will be remembered as Arby's 2,500th establishment," said Assael.
Arby's new restaurant is located at Interlomas Mall in Mexico City and will be operated by Enrique Gallego. Assael plans to build 35 Arby's restaurants in Mexico City over the next several years. In addition, Assael has the rights to sell other Arby's franchises throughout Mexico.
Arby's corporate executives, Gaylon Smith, senior vice president of franchising, and Larry Gustafson, vice president of domestic and international franchising, will present Assael with a special award for his achievements at the Dec. 10 event.
"We are tremendously excited by the strength of Mr. Assael's organization as a major international franchisee of Arby's. His growth forecasts a major expansion thrust for Arby's in the coming years in international growth. This coming year will see Arby's expand into the United Kingdom, Holland, Bahamas and Quebec, Canada, through development agreements signed in 1991. We look forward to continuing our aggressive expansion to any country that is not restricted by the U.S. State Department," said Smith.
Arby's is the world's largest roast beef sandwich chain, with 2,500 restaurants in the United States, Canada, Asia, Mexico, Australia and the Caribbean. In 1990, the company reached a record $1.43 billion in sales, a 9 percent increase over the previous year, and opened 220 restaurants. Founded in 1964 with 20 employees, Arby's today has 72,000 employees worldwide and commitments for a total of 3,150 restaurants. Arby's is ranked as an industry leader in areas such as technology, product marketing, nutritional and consumer information, and community service.
