ARAMARK was honored for its support of WasteWise's RecycleMania program, a national competition challenging colleges and universities to collect recyclables and raise awareness of environmental and conservation issues.

"We are proud to support RecycleMania and to be recognized by the EPA for our commitment to environmental stewardship The integration and application of environmental values into the military mission in order to sustain readiness, improve quality of life, strengthen civil relations, and preserve valuable natural resources. ," said Bruce Alperin, Director of Marketing, ARAMARK Higher Education. "Our goal is to support our university partners in their environmental mission while also educating students how they can minimize their environmental footprint."

For the past three years, ARAMARK Higher Education has encouraged its college and university partners to participate in the RecycleMania competition and has promoted the competition at these campuses through various initiatives, including Web seminars, collateral and marketing materials, press releases and other external communications.

The 10-week competition capitalizes upon natural rivalries between colleges to provide students with a hands-on activity in waste reduction and recycling. Participating schools report their measurements in pounds recycled per student on a weekly basis. The university that recycles the most waste is awarded the RecycleMania trophy at the end of the 10-week contest.

With ARAMARK's help, in 2007 more than 55 partner campuses participated in RecycleMania, accounting for 27 percent of the total 201 participating campuses. These 55 institutions recycled 8.75 million pounds of waste. The EPA credits the national growth of RecycleMania in part to the increase in ARAMARK client participation. The Endorser of the Year Award recognizes endorsers' outstanding efforts to promote the WasteWise program to other organizations and their success in recruiting new partners.

RecycleMania is endorsed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's WasteWise program, the National Recycling Coalition's College and University Recycling Council, and the National Wildlife Federation's Campus Ecology Program (http://www.recyclemania.org). ARAMARK is a member of the National Recycling Coalition and committed to identifying environmentally conscious practices that support waste minimization and recycling at all of its locations around the world.
