ARABS-ISRAEL - Sept. 30 - Israeli Tank Kills Schoolboy.
Rami Barbari, a 13-year-old Palestinian schoolboy, is killed and 22
other children are wounded by Israeli soldiers while throwing rocks and
debris at army tanks in Nablus, a city of about 115,000 people 50 km
north of Jerusalem that has been under curfew for more than 100 days.
Five adults are also wounded. The first incident occurred when a group
of children began throwing debris at an Israeli tank in the Balata
refugee camp on the eastern outskirts of Nablus. The tank opened fire,
killing Rami Barbari and wounding several others, according to Nablus
Mayor Ghassan Shakah. In the second incident, Shakah said, another group
of schoolchildren launched a stone-throwing barrage at a cluster of
about 10 Israeli tanks stationed in the main square of central Nablus,
and the tanks again opened fire, wounding about 15 people. Staff at two
Nablus hospitals put the total casualties in the clashes at one dead and
27 wounded. Ghassan Shakah said: "If someone throws a stone at a
tank, nothing will happen, and shooting back is nonsense. It's not
even human".
