AR's transparency conference.


In conjunction with this issue, the AR's international conference on transparency will be held at the RIBA RIBA Royal Institute of British Architects  in London on 1 March. Transparency was one of the main attributes of twentieth-century architecture, and as more and more new technologies and materials become available, our perceptions of the concept of transparency are continually changing and becoming more sophisticated.

Michael Wigginton, author of Glass in Architecture, will give an overview of latest technical developments. Engineers Tim Macfarlane MacFarlane or Macfarlane is a surname shared by:
  • Alan Macfarlane (born 1941), a professor of anthropological science at Cambridge University
  • Alexander Macfarlane (mathematician) (1851-1913), a Scottish-Canadian logician, physicist, and mathematician
 and Tony Hunt will discuss the structural and optical properties of glass and plastics. Helmut Jahn Helmut Jahn (b. January 4, 1940) is a German-American architect, designer of dozens of major buildings throughout the world.

Some of the better known among his creations are the US$800 million Sony Center on the Potsdamer Platz, Berlin, the Messeturm in Frankfurt and the
, of Murphy Jahn, Chicago, whose love of glass has been demonstrated in numerous buildings all over the world, will discuss his recent work.

Werner Sobek Werner Sobek (born May 16, 1953) is a German architect and structural engineer. Life
Sobek was born 1953 in Aalen, Germany. From 1974 to 1980, he studied structural engineering and architecture at the University of Stuttgart.
 (Stuttgart) and Eva Jiricna (London), both renowned world-wide for their expertise with glass, will discuss their innovatory approaches to transparency. James Carpenter and Luke Lowings will demonstrate their latest moving explorations of light in transmission, refraction refraction, in physics, deflection of a wave on passing obliquely from one transparent medium into a second medium in which its speed is different, as the passage of a light ray from air into glass.  and reflection.
