de Paris runner-up and intended mount of Ballydoyle No.1 jockey Johnny Murtagh, had been the in-demand horse in the Leger betting all week - tumbling to as low as 9-4 at the close of business on Wednesday.

But supporters of Age Of Aquarius were left reeling when, without a single word of warning from Co Tipperary, his name was not among the eight runners declared yesterday morning for the Doncaster feature.

Belatedly keeping punters informed of events, O'Brien said yesterday: "We were not 100 per cent happy with him after his canter this morning, and decided not to declare him."

At least those who backed the defecting favourite with Ladbrokes and Boylesports won't lose out - both firms are refunding stakes on Age Of Aquarius.

Ladbrokes now quote Kite Wood at 9-4 favourite, ahead of 3-1 second choice Changingoftheguard, who will now be ridden by Murtagh.
