APS Seeks 1,000 Megawatts of Long-Term Resources.

PHOENIX -- Arizona Public Service Company (APS) announced today that it has issued a request for proposal (RFP) seeking at least 1,000 megawatts of long-term energy resources for delivery beginning in June 2007.

These resources, combined with the 100 megawatts of renewable resources APS is seeking through a separate RFP announced in March, will help the company meet its customers' growing peak energy needs. The number of APS customers has been growing at a rate three times the national average for more than 10 years and is expected to continue to grow at approximately 4 percent a year.

"We continue to take important steps today to plan for the energy needs of our customers tomorrow," said Don Robinson, APS Vice President of Planning. "The significant growth and development we've seen in our state over the past decade is showing no sign of slowing and we have to continue to stay ahead of that curve."

Competitive proposals for this "Reliability" RFP must be for a period of not less than five years and provide a minimum capacity of 25 megawatts.
