The harvesting procedure itself may be illegal, including using corrupt means to gain access to forests; extraction without permission or from a protected area; the cutting of ACTIVITY. Asia Pacific Resources International Holdings Ltd. (APRIL), Indonesia Indonesia (ĭn'dənē`zhə), officially Republic of Indonesia, republic (2005 est. pop. 241,974,000), c.735,000 sq mi (1,903,650 sq km), SE Asia, in the Malay Archipelago. , issued a statement that affirms its support of the Indonesian government's drive against illegal logging in the proposed Tesso Nilo National Park Tesso Nilo National Park is a National Park in Riau Province, Sumatra, Indonesia. It was declared a National Park by the Indonesian government in 2004.[1] The area of the park is 385 km², but the decision has been made to expand it by 1000 km². in Riau Province, Sumatra. Recent Ministry of Forestry response to illegal logging activities spurred a demonstration of roughly 300 villagers. APRIL said the situation underscores the challenge of curbing illegal logging in Riau.
