 APPSOFT SHIPS ITS FIRST GENERATION NeXTSTEP PRODUCTS;
 APPSOFT DRAW AND WRITENOW
 REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Aug. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Appsoft, Inc., today announced it has begun shipping its first two products for the NeXTSTEP market: Appsoft Draw, an advanced presentation graphics package, and WriteNow, a full-featured word processor. The programs work on NeXT computers and 486-based PCs running the NeXTSTEP operating system.
 Appsoft Draw is the only NeXTSTEP draw package that enables users to easily combine graphics and text into multi-page presentations. Appsoft Draw's tool palette offers extensive drawing capabilities for precise control of lines, arcs, squares, rectangles, ellipses, circles, polygons, beziers, 24-bit color, plus TIFF and EPS images. Objects can be drawn with any line width, filled with any shade of gray, gradient, pattern or spot color, and adjusted for transparency.
 TIFF and EPS images also can be adjusted for brightness and contrast levels and traced, as well as interactively scaled, cropped, rotated, sketched and skewed. Colors mixed with Appsoft Draw can be stored and used with any NeXTSTEP application. According to NeXTwatch, while Appsoft Draw is "easy to use and fast, it is also powerful."
 WriteNow is the first full-featured word processing program developed specifically for NeXTSTEP systems. Features include full font, format and page layout flexibility. Graphics can be dropped in from any other application and viewed, repositioned, stretched, resized and rescaled. The program supports EPS and TIFF graphics, plus NeXT e-mail. WriteNow is currently being shipped with five Adobe typefaces valued at over $200, plus clip art files from T/Maker, all at no extra cost. Each purchase of WriteNow in 1992 entitles the user to a year of free technical support through Appsoft's toll-free technical hotline. Also included is a free upgrade to Appsoft Write 3.0 scheduled for release in first quarter 1993.
 The William Morris Agency Inc., the largest talent agency in the world, uses WriteNow on the 300 NeXT computers the firm has at its New York and California offices. "We use WriteNow because it's easy to learn and use," said Alex Henry, director of MIS. "Very little time has to be spent teaching new employees how it works." The program is used for general correspondence and business communications throughout the company.
 All Appsoft applications feature identical commands and a "look and feel" consistency from one program to the next. This enables users to get up-to-speed on new programs very quickly, without resorting to the manual to learn basic operations. Appsoft Draw can also be dynamically linked to WriteNow or any other Appsoft program.
 Recognizing the need for a true object-oriented environment, the NeXTSTEP operating system was developed to offer the power of Unix with an easy-to-use, intuitive interface. With the introduction of fast Intel 486 chips, the power of NeXTSTEP is finally available for the PC market. However, despite the ease in creating custom applications in its object-oriented environment, NeXTSTEP still requires first-rate applications, capable of using the system's power to allow users to work faster. Making the most of this power in applications is Appsoft's mission.
 NeXTSTEP now offers NeXT and 486-based PC users the performance of Unix with the ease of use of Windows, but with a more highly integrated graphical user interface and true multi-tasking. Appsoft is introducing a broad line of NeXTSTEP applications, each developed to take full advantage of the power and capabilities of the NeXTSTEP operating system.
 Appsoft Draw (suggested retail $395) and WriteNow (suggested retail $199) are available immediately from NeXTConnection and major software retailers and VARs worldwide. Appsoft programs run on all systems running NeXTSTEP 2.0 or higher, 8MB of memory, a hard disk and a 3.5- inch high-density diskette drive. Appsoft has a full technical support staff available to answer customer questions, and a Preferred Customer Program for upgrade support.
 Appsoft, Inc., privately-held, is the premier software publisher of business productivity tools for the NeXT platform and 486 machines running the NeXTSTEP operating system.
