APPRO Introduces New APPRO Integrated Booking Link For Law Enforcement Agencies; New Software Gives Criminal Justice Entities More Control and Access to Data.BATON ROUGE Baton Rouge (băt`ən r zh) [Fr.,=red stick], city (1990 pop. 219,531), state capital and seat of East Baton Rouge parish, SE La. , La.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 4, 1999-- In an effort to assist the Criminal Justice System with efficiently managing and utilizing booking data, APPRO Systems, Inc. announces APPRO Integrated Booking (AIB AIB n abbr (BRIT) (= Accident Investigation Bureau) → oficina de investigación de accidentes AIB n abbr (Brit) (= Accident Investigation Bureau) → ) Link. AIB Link reduces law enforcement labor cost by providing efficient entry of the data collected at arrest booking and by making that data available to other systems, such as a local booking system, a data warehouse or an Integrated Criminal Justice System. AIB Link slashes the time and optimizes the workflow required for law enforcement agencies A law enforcement agency (LEA) is a term used to describe any agency which enforces the law. This may be a local or state police, federal agencies such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) or the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). to initiate and maintain a localized database of arrest. AIB Link complements a product used by many law enforcement agencies throughout the world for identifying persons arrested for criminal offenses, Printrak International's(TM) Automated Fingerprint Identification System Automated Fingerprint Identification System (or AFIS) is a system to automatically match one or many unknown fingerprints against a database of known prints. This is done for various reasons, not the least of which is because the person has committed a crime. (AFIS AFIS Automated Fingerprint Identification System AFIS Aerodrome Flight Information Service AFIS Armed Forces Radio and Television Service AFIS Airborne Flight Information System AFIS Automated Fingerprinting Identification System (Pakistan) ). AFIS uses a sophisticated fingerprint scanning technology, known as Livescan, to capture and compare fingerprints so that individuals are positively identified. AIB Link enables law enforcement agencies that currently utilize a Livescan unit to collect booking data more efficiently and to store it in a way that makes it accessible to other units needing quick access to booking data. Printrak District Supervisor, Scot McDavitt stated: "I've enjoyed working with the staff at APPRO Systems during the development of AIB Link. APPRO has been able to leverage their technological core competency A core competency is something that a firm can do well and that meets the following three conditions specified by Hamel and Prahalad (1990):
AIB Link meets FBI Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR (Under Color Removal) A method for reducing the amount of printing ink used. It substitutes black for gray color (equal amounts of cyan, magenta and yellow). Thus black ink is used instead of the three CMY inks. See GCR and dot gain. ) standards and addresses all State and Federal guidelines. This compliance reduces the probability of data formatting/entry errors, eliminates the cost associated with translating data for reporting purposes, and enables agencies to easily respond to requirements for statistical reporting. AIB Link also has the ability to capture an Arrest Tracking Number (ATN ATN Acute tubular necrosis, see there ) from the Livescan unit. This allows communities to track an arrest throughout the criminal justice process and provides the means to search all charges associated with a given arrest. In addition to the ATN, AIB Link captures/assigns a State Identification Number (SID) to assist in identification of the individual. The SID effectively and effortlessly utilizes time required to search criminal records. APPRO President, Craig Uffman stated: "AIB Link is a great tool for communities needing to improve the flow of data throughout the criminal justice process. It is easy to implement and pays for itself quickly with its impact on the labor cost of law enforcement agencies. AIB Link is the first of many products we plan to introduce that will leverage technology to help the `good guys' win the battle against crime."
