SANTA CLARITA Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. It provides 11 million people with electricity.  suffered a serious electrical shock Thursday while working on a 16,000-volt power line near the Golden State Freeway The Golden State Freeway is a north-south freeway running through Kern County and Los Angeles County, California. Originally built as U.S. Highway 99, it was re-signed as Interstate 5 in 1964.  and Valencia Boulevard, officials said.

David Parsley, 24, of Garden Grove Garden Grove, city (1990 pop. 143,050), Orange co., S Calif., a suburb of Long Beach and Los Angeles, on the Santa Ana River; founded 1877, inc. 1956. Many of its residents work in nearby aerospace and defense installations, and there is light manufacturing.  was transported to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in serious condition with electrical burns to his chest and arms, said hospital spokeswoman Janice Newbold.

The lineman-in-training, who had been with the company for three years, was installing electrical cable about 20 feet up when the incident occurred just before 3:30 p.m., said Edison spokesman Tom Boyd.

 if they were electrical burns from contact with the power line, or flash burns from sparks,'' Boyd said. ``We're trying to find out how it happened now.''
