William H. Gary Sr., vice president of operations for NavCom Systems Inc., a private company in Manassas, Va., for the past eight years, has been named dean of work-force development for Northern Virginia Community College in Annandale,
Va. He also has served as the human resource director and legislative affairs director for Computer Sciences Corp. and personnel director for Johnson & Johnson and as a technical recruiter for Lukens Steel. He holds a bachelor's in psychology from Morehouse College and a master's in industrial relations from Rutgers University.
Donald Goff has been named dean of associate in science programs at Hillsborough Community College in Tampa, Fla. He also has served as dean, director of training, director of planning and information technology manager at other colleges. He holds a bachelor's from Middle Tennessee State University and a master's from Southwest Missouri State.
Alan M. Gurien, chief deputy comptroller for Nassau County, has been named vice president of finance at Nassau Community College in Garden City, N.Y. Gurien also has served as county director of accounting, treasurer and chief financial officer for Astradyne Computer Industries and audit supervisor for Ernst and Young. He holds an associate's in applied sciences from Nassau Community College and a bachelor's in accounting and a master's in finance, both from Adelphi University.
Steven M. Kinsella, vice president for administrative services at the Monterey Peninsula Community College District in California, has been named vice chancellor of administrative services for the West Valley-Mission Community College District in Saratoga, Calif. He also has served as director of business services for the Los Angeles County Community College District and dean of business services at the Gavilan Joint Community College District. He holds a bachelor's from Hawaii Pacific University and a master's in business administration from Southern Illinois University.
Althea McBurrows, coordinator of academic services at Kemper Military School and College in Boonville, Mo., has been named dean of liberal arts and sciences at Lake Superior College in Duluth, Minn. She also has served as an English instructor at Virginia State University. She holds a bachelor's and master's, both in English from Virginia State University in Petersburg, Va.
Joe Moreau, dean of learning resources for West Hills College in Coalinga, Calif., has been named dean of academic information services for MiraCosta College in Oceanside, Calif. He also has served as the instructional resources center supervisor at Pasadena City College. He holds a bachelor's in visual arts from the University of California, San Diego, and a master's in education from California State University-Los Angeles.
Richard E. Radeke, vice president of finance and operation for Waubonsee Community College since 1998, has been named executive vice president of finance and operations for the Sugar Grove, Ill., college. He also has served as vice president for business and finance at Moraine Valley Community College and assistant superintendent for business affairs for the East Aurora school district. He holds a bachelor's in education from Northern Illinois University and a master's in education from Illinois State University.
Dr. Christine J. Sobek, executive vice president of educational affairs at Waubonsee Community College, has been named provost of the Sugar Grove, Ill., college. Sobek also has served as the college's assistant vice president for instruction and dean of student development and as executive assistant to the president at the College of Lake County. She holds a bachelor's from Purdue University, a master's from Michigan State University and a doctorate from Northern Illinois University.
Dr. Tina Stoval, director of counseling at Lake Land College in Mattoon, Ill., has been named dean of counseling, advising and minority affairs at Moraine Valley Community College in Palos Hills, Ill. She holds an associate's in general studies, a bachelor's in psychology, a master's in guidance and counseling and a doctorate in community college leadership.
Dr. Valerie Zimbaro has been named dean of academic affairs at Hillsborough Community College in Tampa, Fla. She has worked in education for the past 15 years, serving as coordinator for distance learning, department chairwoman and faculty member at several higher education institutions. She holds a bachelor's and master's, both in English from the University of South Florida, and a doctorate in higher education from Nova University.
Dr. Sam Byrts has been named dean of students at Housatonic Community College in Bridgeport, Conn. He was previously program manager and director of educational and contact support services at Florida Community College in Jacksonville. He earned his bachelor's from Edward Waters College, a master's from Howard University and a doctorate from Florida State University.
