APPOINTMENT OF DIRECTOR TO FILL VACANCY ON CB BANCSHARES, INC. BOARD

 HONOLULU, Aug. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- CB Bancshares, Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: CBBI) today announced the death of Robert M. Kaya, a director since 1980. James M. Kamo, corporate secretary of CB Bancshares, was elected to fill the vacancy and serve as director for the late Mr. Kaya's unexpired term, which ends at the 1996 annual meeting. Mr. Kamo, an attorney, will continue to serve as a director of City Bank, the company's principal operating unit.
 CB Bancshares is the fourth largest bank holding company in the state of Hawaii and parent of City Bank, Honolulu, a state chartered bank operating on three islands. Its primary clients are small- to medium-sized businesses and retail customers.
