 APPLIX ANNOUNCES TWO EXECUTIVE APPOINTMENTS:

EXPANSION OF EXECUTIVE MANAGEMENT TEAM CORRESPONDS WITH COMPANY GROWTH
WESTBOROUGH, Mass., Nov. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- In response to the unprecedented success of its UNIX-based workgroup solution, Aster-x(tm), Applix, Inc. today announced two executive appointments. Craig Cervo was named vice president of research and development while Patrick J. Scannell, Jr., was named vice president of finance and administration and chief financial officer. Both have years of management experience with high-growth, multi-product companies. Craig Cervo
With close to 10 years of executive management experience in research, development, and manufacturing, Cervo will play an instrumental role in heightening the performance of Aster-x across multiple platforms, driving new product development plans, and managing a staff of over 20 developers. Prior to joining Applix, Cervo was vice president of engineering for Interleaf, Inc., Waltham, Mass., and director of software manufacturing of Atex, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Kodak, Inc., Billerica, Mass. Most recently, Cervo served as a vice president of development for XYQUEST, Inc., a word processing developer based in Billerica, Mass.
Cervo received a B.S. degree in aeronautical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and resides with his family in Carlisle,

Mass.
"Because Aster-x and its scripting language encompasses many applications and incorporates leading-edge technologies, it was a challenge to find a vice president of research and development with all the right skill sets. Craig has a strong, UNIX-based desktop publishing background with successful companies like Interleaf and Atex, and was able to hit the ground running and add tremendous value to the product," said Jit Saxena, president of Applix, Inc. "We're fortunate to have Craig leading our development team," added Saxena. Patrick Scannell, Jr.
With its fiscal 1992 revenues expected to grow at better than 70 percent over 1991 revenues, Applix, Inc. recognized the need to add a vice president of finance and administration as well as a chief financial officer to spearhead all of its financing efforts. Applix attributes its profitability and growth to the successful product launch of Aster-x in January 1991 and its growing international distribution channels.
Patrick J. Scannell, Jr., joins Applix after 17 years of progressively responsible financial management experience with publicly- held companies. Most recently, Scannell was the vice president of finance and administration for Alliant Computer Systems, Littleton, Mass. Scannell has had significant international experience throughout his career, including serving as Alliant's vice president and general manager of its Japanese subsidiary, and assisting Alliant in establishing its direct European operations.
"As our company continues to grow on a global basis, financial management is of critical importance to us. Pat's international experience is a strong asset to Applix as the company forecasts 50 percent of its revenue to derive from international sales in the 1993 calendar year," said Saxena.
Scannell received his MBA from Babson College and his B.S. from Boston College, and is a CPA in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. He resides in Westborough, Mass., with his family.
