 DIRECTORS AND APPOINTS HIM PRESIDENT, ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES GROUP
 EAST MILLSTONE, N.J., Oct. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Dr. Kenneth H. Harper, chairman and CEO of Applied Bioscience International Inc. (NASDAQ: APBI), announced today that Swep T. Davis has been elected to the board of directors of the company and appointed president, Environmental Sciences Group. Mr. Davis has had a distinguished career, serving in various senior positions in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency spanning the Nixon, Ford and Carter Administrations. He was responsible for administration of all industrial regulatory activities under the Clean Water Act; he directed numerous regulatory developments under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act and served as the Carter Administration's spokesperson and coordinator in passage of the Comprehensive Environmental Response Compensation and Liability Act ("Superfund").
 After government service Mr. Davis co-founded and was president and board member of ETC Corp. (Environmental Testing and Certification Corporation), a leading company in analytical and data management services in the environmental industry. ETC was subsequently merged with O.H. Materials Corp. and later listed on the New York Stock Exchange as OHM Corp. In 1989, he became president and CEO of Concord Resources Group, Inc., a joint venture start-up company in hazardous waste management, and positioned Concord as an emerging company ranking in the top tier in overall permitted disposal capacity in North America with an exceptional record for environmental integrity.
 Mr. Davis holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Tech and an MBA from Harvard. He served as an officer in Vietnam and is a recipient of the Bronze Star.
