APPLICATION DEADLINE SET CASTAIC COUNCIL SEAT OPEN.

CASTAIC - Sunday is the deadline for applications for a vacant seat on the Castaic Area Town Council to be postmarked.

The new member will represent Val Verde Val Verde may mean:
  • Val Verde, California
  • Val Verde, Texas
  • Val Verde Park, Texas
  • Val Verde County, Texas
  • Battle of Valverde or Val Verde, an American Civil War battle
 and replace Ruth Griffin, who resigned following infighting in·fight·ing

Candidates must submit their letter of interest and qualifications plus a $50 filing fee to the Castaic Area Town Council, PO Box 325, Castaic 91310.

Candidates' names will be announced at Wednesday's council meetings.

The council expects to tackle issues ranging from new golf courses and large lot homes to a new hotel and truck stop planned in the area.

Recent town council elections held for the first time on Election Day drew more voters than ever - more than 350 ballots cast in one race.

Griffin and others said at the time that her resignation followed years of disagreements between residents of Val Verde, a socially and economically diverse valley, and the rest of Castaic.

This year, the council expects to take on the issue of Santa Clarita's proposed sphere of influence, a development master plan for the area and new businesses planned there.
