APPLE WINS BEST OF SHOW AWARDS AT COMDEX '92

CUPERTINO, Calif., Nov. 24 ~PRNewswire~ -- Apple Computer Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: AAPL), the worldwide leader in unit shipments of microcomputers, took top honors for two of its products at COMDEX '92. At a press conference attended by U.S. and international journalists, the Macintosh Duo System and QuickTime 1.5~QuickTime for Windows received "Best of COMDEX" awards, which are sponsored annually by BYTE Magazine and The Interface Group.
For the second year in a row, an Apple Macintosh PowerBook was named "Best Portable at COMDEX," beating scores of DOS~Windows-based systems. The Macintosh Duo System won this prestigious award in a competition that included more than 140 portable computers, including dozens of 486SL color portables, pen-based notebooks and handheld devices.
The easy integration offered by the Macintosh Duo System was the key to winning the award, according to BYTE. The system, which combines the convenience and flexibility of the 4.2-lbs PowerBook Duo notebook with the power and versatility of a Macintosh desktop system, is enabled by Apple's PowerLatch docking technology. PowerLatch offers seamless movement between the notebook and desktop worlds by allowing users to simply insert the PowerBook Duo into the desktop docking unit, called the Duo Dock. Unlike other docking systems, no other set-up is necessary to access networks, large displays and other peripherals.
QuickTime 1.5 and QuickTime for Windows 1.0 took first place in the multimedia products category, beating out more than 150 nominations. QuickTime -- the world's most sophisticated multimedia technology -- is distinguished by its advanced modular architecture, time-based synchronization, human interface design, and Apple's commitment to implementation across a variety of computer platforms. The QuickTime multimedia architecture enables users to cut, copy, and paste video, sound, and animation with the same ease-of-use the Macintosh computer has always offered for graphics, data and text. More than 300 applications are already available with support for QuickTime.
QuickTime for Windows, a set of Windows Dynamic Linked Libraries (DLLs), can be installed on most PCs and used by any Windows application adapted to QuickTime's application programming interface. With this technology, Apple has developed a cross-platform multimedia standard to provide users and developers with a consistent interface and file format for working with digital video, sound, animation, and other multimedia data.
Apple is an international company specializing in the sale and distribution of personal computers, imaging products, and software. According to research by International Data Corp., the company is the world leader in unit shipments of personal computers.
