APPLE USA SIGNS WAL-MART TO CARRY MACINTOSH PERFORMA COMPUTER

 CAMPBELL, Calif., May 24 /PRNewswire/ -- The Apple USA division of Apple Computer Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: AAPL) today announced the authorization of Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (NYSE: WMT) to sell a special version of the Apple Macintosh Performa 400 series computer. The agreement between Wal-Mart and Apple initially includes 500 Wal-Mart storefronts nationwide. Wal-Mart plans to expand distribution of Performa to approximately 1,400 locations by the end of calendar year 1993.
 Wal-Mart will distribute a special version of the Macintosh Performa which will include a high quality Performa Plus monitor, keyboard, mouse and selected software packages -- all in one box. The Wal-Mart Performa model is based on the Motorola 68030 microprocessor running at 16 MHz, with 4 MB of RAM and an 80 MB hard drive. The model also includes built-in video support for 256 colors, an enhanced version of Apple's System 7 operating system software and ClarisWorks, an integrated productivity package.

 Wal-Mart will determine pricing for Performa sold through their stores. Performa is available immediately at selected Wal-Mart locations.
