 APPLE USA EXPANDS SOFTWARE DISTRIBUTION

Ingram Micro to Distribute Selected Software to Software Resellers;

Includes Macintosh System 7 Extensions QuickTime and PC Exchange
 CUPERTINO, Calif., May 18 /PRNewswire/ -- The Apple USA division of Apple Computer Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) today announced expanded distribution plans in the United States for selected software packages, including its two new Apple Macintosh System 7 software extension products. As part of this strategy, Apple has signed Ingram Micro, the Santa Ana, Calif.-based national distributor.
 Ingram will distribute six software products, including the newly announced Macintosh PC Exchange and QuickTime Starter Kit (see related release today), along with Macintosh System 7 Group and Personal Upgrade Kits, and two networking products, AppleTalk Remote Access and AppleShare Server 3.0.
 "With expanded availability through national distributors such as Ingram, Apple software products will be available for the first time to software resellers and a broader range of dealers who specialize in software solutions. This will provide our customers more convenient access to our software products," said Cliff Jenks, Apple USA vice president for Sales and Marketing Support. "Increasingly we see customers turning to software specialists for these types of software purchases and Apple products haven't had representation in these important channels."
 Traditionally, Apple software products have been distributed with Apple hardware products exclusively through Apple's network of authorized computer dealers. As a fore-runner to this program in May, 1991, Apple contracted with Ingram for a limited-time promotional program to provide authorized Apple dealers with broad access to the System 7 Upgrade Kit.
 "This marks the beginning of an aggressive initiative to provide Macintosh customers with easy access worldwide to a range of system- software products that meet specific needs," said Charlie Oppenheimer, director of marketing for the Macintosh Software Architecture Division. Direct Product Support
 The selected software products to be made available through the new software distribution program include direct telephone support from Apple.
 Both Macintosh PC Exchange (suggested retail price $79) and QuickTime Starter Kit ($169 SRP) come bundled with one-year of telephone support. Apple offers 90 days of direct support for each of the following products: AppleTalk Remote Access ($199 SRP), AppleShare Server 3.0 ($1,199 SRP) and the System 7 Personal Upgrade Kit ($99 SRP). The System 7 Group Upgrade Kit ($349 SRP) comes bundled with 180 days of telephone support. QuickTime Desktop Seminar Available
 Separately, the Apple USA Customer Support Products and Services organization announced the availability of Apple Desktop Seminar: QuickTime, a self-paced multi-media presentation that serves as a primer for helping users learn how to make use of QuickTime technology. Desktop Seminar: QuickTime ($69 SRP) will be available beginning June 1 and can be ordered directly by calling 800-950-2442.
