APPLE TO RID SELF OF COMPETITOR BY BUYING `OWN' CLONE MAKER.

Apple Computer Inc. has found a way to eliminate some of its most troublesome competition: Buy it or starve starve

Apple said Tuesday that it will acquire key assets of Power Computing Not to be confused with the extant computer hardware company also called Power Computing.

Power Computing was a short-lived manufacturer of Apple Macintosh-compatible computers.
 Corp., the first and most successful company to make copies of its Macintosh computer. It also said that while it will honor current agreements, it will not license future technology to remaining clone clone, group of organisms, all of which are descended from a single individual through asexual reproduction, as in a pure cell culture of bacteria. Except for changes in the hereditary material that come about by mutation, all members of a clone are genetically  makers.

Industry observers said the decision effectively reverses Apple's 1994 decision to allow clones.

The acquisition of Power Computing, for $100 million in stock, relieves the biggest source of Apple's nagging headache over cloning cloning: see clone.
