APPLE SHIPS SNA.PS 5250 TERMINAL EMULATOR FOR IBM AS/400 SYSTEMS

CUPERTINO, Calif., June 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Apple Computer, Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: AAPL) announced today it is currently shipping its SNA.ps 5250 emulation software package, which allows Macintosh users to access applications residing on IBM's Application System/400 family of midrange computers. SNA.ps 5250 is the first Apple product, developed under the Apple/IBM Enterprise Networking Initiative, to be sold by both Apple and IBM.
The new emulator expands Apple's SNA.ps family of System Network Architecture (SNA) products which allow users to integrate Macintosh computers with IBM SNA networks. The SNA.ps 5250 is client software which provides Macintosh computer users with an emulation of IBM's 5250 family of terminals. With SNA.ps 5250, a Macintosh personal computer can access the extensive suite of applications available on IBM's AS/400 systems, enabling both stand alone as well as network access to the AS/400.
The SNA.ps 5250 GC (Gateway Connection) is also available for connecting a single Macintosh computer on an AppleTalk network to AS/400 systems through the SNA.ps Gateway version 2.0, which is also currently shipping. Both products work with the Apple Token Ring 4/16 NB Card or Apple Serial NB Card installed in any Macintosh II or Macintosh Quadra computer, supporting directly connected or AppleTalk distributed 5250 sessions.

The SNA.ps 5250 emulation software package is currently available from Apple authorized resellers. The manufacturer's suggested retail price for a single, stand alone version of SNA.ps 5250 software is US$279. The MSRP for a single, stand alone version of SNA.ps 5250 GC software is US$105.
