APPLE SHIPS DAL SERVER FOR IBM AS/400 SYSTEMS

 Description:
 Apple Computer Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: AAPL) is now shipping the Data Access Language (DAL) Server to support IBM Corp.'s Application System~400 family of midrange computers. As an early sales incentive, Apple will provide the DAL Server for AS~400 at 25 percent off list prices through March 31, 1993. The DAL Server for AS~400 is a software product that allows Macintosh personal computers to transparently access data on AS~400 systems via an LU 6.2 (APPC) connection.
 Significance:
 DAL is a SQL standard-based connectivity language that provides users with a consistent interactive access from the desktop to the information residing on a variety of servers and host computers, including IBM, Digital, UNIX and other computers. It provides easy, uniform access to data stored on host systems and the ability to integrate the information into off-the-shelf applications such as spreadsheets for further analysis, manipulation and reporting. The DAL Server for AS~400 further enhances Apple's overall DAL database connectivity solution, which includes support for 13 major database host environments as well as 13 different relational databases.
 Availability and Pricing:
 The DAL Server for AS~400 is now available worldwide through APDA, Apple's source for developer tools. The following list prices will be discounted by 25 percent for orders placed prior to March 31, 1993, and vary depending on the number of concurrent clients connected to an AS~400 running DAL:
 1-8 users $ 4,250
 1-32 users $12,000
 Greater than 32 users $20,000
 Site licensing is also available for customers with multiple AS~400 systems:
 1-20 CPUs $115,000
 Greater than 20 CPUs $200,000
