 APOGEE WINS FIRST ASIAN CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT;
 $10 MILLION CURTAINWALL ORDER TO COVER TAIWAN FINANCIAL CENTER
 MINNEAPOLIS, Dec. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Apogee Enterprises, Inc. (NASDAQ: APOG) today reported that its largest operating unit, Harmon Contract, has been awarded its first Asian curtainwall contract: a $10.5 million glass and granite cladding for the Imperial Financial Center in Taiwan's second largest city, Kaoshiung.
 The major contract award follows by 10 months the opening of Harmon Contract's Asian sales office in Singapore. The operating unit, which comprises Apogee's commercial construction division, is the largest curtainwall contractor in the United States and successfully penetrated Europe two years ago with more than $50 million in London contracts.
 "Although the U.S. market continues to be quite weak, our overseas sales offices offer significant new market potential for Harmon contract," said Donald W. Goldfus, Apogee's chairman and chief executive officer. "We have essentially completed our London projects, profitably, and are pursuing additional business in Europe. With effective management, we anticipate profitable completion of our first Asian contract during calendar 1993."
 The Imperial Financial Center is a 27-story tower designed by architect Steven Chang for Imperial Enterprise Corp. Evergreen Construction is the general contractor for the project, which will entail more than 240,000 square feet of reflective glass, white granite and painted glass panels.
 Curtainwall is the glass, stone and aluminum exterior skin of high- rise buildings. The glass and other materials are glazed into an aluminum gridwork that is attached to the building's structure.
 Apogee Enterprises is an industry leader in the fabrication, installation and distribution of glass and aluminum. Its products and services include glass, windows and curtainwall for commercial and institutional construction and remodeling markets; curtainwall installation at major high-rise construction sites; design, manufacture and installation of institutional and government security systems; metal and glass coating services; fabrication, sale and installation of automotive glass; and such consumer-oriented products as venetian blinds, shutters, picture frame glass and computer glare screens. Headquartered in Minneapolis, the company's stock is traded on the NASDAQ's National Market System under the symbol APOG.
