 APL ANNOUNCES STACKTRAIN SERVICE FROM
LOS ANGELES TO JACKSONVILLE AND MIAMI
OAKLAND, Calif. July 23 /PRNewswire/ -- APL has introduced a stacktrain service that provides shippers with an improved ride quality and reliable schedules for shipments moving from Los Angeles to Jacksonville or Miami.
With this service, shipments received in Los Angeles are loaded onto stacktrains featuring specially designed rail cars that carry freight containers stacked two-high for direct delivery to Jacksonville or Miami. "Shippers who previously had to choose between motor carriers or conventional rail service from Los Angeles to Jacksonville or Miami can now use our reliable and timely direct stacktrain service," said Michael Goh, senior vice president of stacktrain services.
APL said the new service reduces the risk of damage by streamlining the freight handling process. Also, the new direct stacktrain features greater delivery reliability than the combination stacktrain and conventional rail service previously offered.
Noted Goh, "As customers demand intermodal transportation with more service-sensitive products, we intend to provide them with the most efficient means for delivering their shipments. This stacktrain service is part of our commitment to continually improving our intermodal capabilities."
In conjunction with its partner rail carriers, APL is the largest stacktrain service provider for the Southeast market from Los Angeles. APL markets its stacktrain services through a nationwide network of selected intermodal marketing companies (shipper's agents). Customers using the service can benefit from APL's large inventory of more than 11,000 high cube 48' and 45' containers, and the virtual damage-free transit provided by APL's double-stack rail cars.
APL Land Transport Services established the first stacktrain service in 1984. Today its network spans 20,000 miles of rail track and serves 60 terminal locations in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The company is part of the American President Companies (NYSE: APS) group, which provides container transportation services in North America, Asia and the Middle East through an intermodal system combining ocean, rail and truck transportation.
